Definitions

Cookies are not the same as local storage or third-party requests

Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of data stored by the browser and typically sent with later requests to the same service. They are often used for sessions, preferences, analytics, or advertising.

Local storage and third-party requests

Local storage is browser-side storage that can keep data on a device without behaving exactly like a cookie. A third-party request is a request from your browser to an outside service, such as font or analytics infrastructure, even if it does not create a cookie in the browser.

Current site behavior

What GeoQuizGenius uses today

Local browser storage currently in use

  • Local highscores saved on the device only after preference consent
  • Favorites ordering based on saved local play history only after preference consent
  • Fresh Picks personalization based on unplayed local history only after preference consent
  • Optional language-preference cookie only after preference consent

What GeoQuizGenius does not currently set for accounts

GeoQuizGenius does not run an account system, login session, or member area. As a result, it does not currently use first-party account or session cookies for sign-in behavior.

Current third-party requests

  • Google Fonts for typography delivery, only after external-services consent
  • Icons delivered as local first-party assets by GeoQuizGenius
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics for traffic measurement, only after external-services consent

How to change consent later

GeoQuizGenius provides a cookie settings control in the site footer so visitors can revisit their decision later.

Rejecting non-essential options keeps search and core navigation available while optional browser storage and external services remain blocked.

Future changes

How advertising may change storage behavior

Planned banner advertising

Banner advertising may be added in the future. Depending on the final implementation, ad technologies can involve cookies, local storage, or similar identifiers for measurement, fraud prevention, personalization, or reporting.

EEA consent requirement

If consent-relevant advertising technologies are activated for users in the EEA or other applicable regions, the site should present the legally required consent controls before such storage or access is used.

This page should be updated whenever a consent manager, ad vendor, or materially new storage behavior is introduced.
